What is Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG)?
ESG is a set of criteria that investors, consumers, and other stakeholders use to evaluate a company’s overall sustainability and ethical practices. It looks beyond financial metrics to consider how well a company manages its environmental risks and opportunities, maintains strong relationships with employees, customers, and communities (the social dimension), and ensures accountable, transparent corporate governance. ESG factors are increasingly influential in investment decisions, brand perception, and regulatory compliance, guiding companies to operate responsibly and sustainably for long-term success.
The Environmental element of sustainability is often mistaken as the primary or even the only element, but as noted above is only 1 strand of ESG. However we should note that in relation to FESPA members, who are primarily print manufacturers, our ESG audit has an increased weighting on the Environmental elements given the nature of our businesses.
